A Client Story
One of my very first clients (aged 62) came to me to support her in the role as Treasurer with her NFP committee . We explored ways to help keep up to date, streamline processes for the committee and provide mentoring.
As trust developed, this led onto conversations about growing issues of anxiety regarding personal tax problems. You see this client was 12 years behind lodging their Individual Tax returns. The main assistance provide was compiling the information together and referring her to an accountant for lodgement. Just a holding someone hand eased this anxiety. As a result there was a massive tax bill to pay but now at least they can sleep at night.
By now, we had sorted out the NFP, Individual Tax returns and now it was time to tackle the business accounts. This task was considerably less as they had been working 24/7 in the business. It wasn’t in too bad a shape. After everything we had overcome, the client was in a better position to take control of the failing partnership. Even though it was painfull to do, they persisted and achieved their goal. For some reason, it seemed somewhat easier this time. Maybe this was due to reduced pressures, previously ( who knows). It was so much easier to clean up, streamline and move forward. After 4 years partnering together, this client still seeks to learn new ways to stay on top of the workload. Implementing tools to help them streamline processes and take control of their future.
As you can see, this client came to me with a small issue, however the underlying issue was just below the surface. She needed to learn to trust another person that provided a service she needed. I am pleased to say that I do very little nowadays as they have learned to be self-sufficient. BAS is still lodged however they only call upon me when they require support and reassurance. I feel proud that I have been apart of something bigger, assisting in this clients journey.
